In LCM (LCM) pattern and aging testing, the interface type between the signal source and the panel directly determines which test signal source to choose. The two most mainstream panel interfaces in the industry today are LVDS and V-by-One, which often confuse engineers new to display testing. This article sorts out their core differences, from principle to application.
LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) is a general-purpose high-speed transmission technology from the 1990s. In LCD displays, LVDS transmits pixel data over multiple differential pairs: a typical 8-bit panel uses 4 data pairs plus 1 clock pair (4C1D), while a 10-bit panel uses 5 data pairs plus 1 clock pair.
V-by-One is a high-speed serial interface standard for display panels developed by THine of Japan; its evolution, V-by-One HS, has become the de facto standard for large-size high-resolution TV panels. Unlike LVDS, V-by-One uses embedded clocking and no longer transmits a separate clock signal.

A test signal source must output signals that exactly match the panel interface.
